Cheers! Music clubs encouragement
Without the clubs, no music scene
«Cheers!» is designed to enhance the Swiss clubs, to give them financial support and to enable them to gain better visibility.
Applications are open to all Swiss music clubs pursuing a trendsetting and creative program conception, programming a high proportion of Swiss musicians and emphasizing fair engagement conditions.
Contributions between CHF 5.000 and CHF 25.000 will be granted. The total encouragement includes CHF 50.000.
For the third time, the music club competition «Cheers!» was launched by Migros Culture Percentage and FONDATION SUISA. 36 clubs from the German- and French-speaking areas of Switzerland submitted their dossiers.
In the summer 2019, the Migros Culture Percentage and the FONDATION SUISA announced the music club promotion «Cheers!» for the third time. «Live music clubs need a high willingness to take risks against the background of often scarce subsidies,» explains Philipp Schnyder, member of the jury and pop project manager at Migros Culture Percentage. «The five award-winning clubs are bringing Swiss musicians to the audience with great enthusiasm.»
Urs Schnell, member of the jury and director of FONDATION SUISA, adds: «Although the situation of clubs in Switzerland is difficult, partly because of stricter legal requirements, there is a diverse club culture thanks to the commitment of the operators».
The award ceremony shoud have taken place during the m4music Award Show on Saturday, 21 March 2020 at the Schiffbau in Zurich. Unfortunately, the event had to be cancelled due to the containment measures related to the coronavirus crisis.
